Rob Wilson MP has announced the government’s support for advisers seeking to enter the social investment market, in a speech held at the Worthstone Social Investment Academy on 2nd March.

His speech announced that Worthstone, the expert on social investment for the retail investment adviser, will launch FCA accredited social investment training this year. This training will ensure the competency of those advisers interested in social investment.

The course structure will take candidates through the whole spectrum of social investment: its history and context, examples of projects in action, impact measurement, due diligence and the risks and rewards of becoming engaged in this exciting new area. Although at an early stage, developments are already underway with a target launch date of September 2016.

The Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson MP provided support and encouragement for the initiative. He commented: “I’m pleased to announce that we’re working with Worthstone to develop an accredited social investment education and training module for retail investment advisers. This will give you the tools and knowledge you need to carve out your offer and to push this market forward.”

Gavin Francis, founder and director of Worthstone, commented: “There is a growing awareness of the concept of social investment amongst advisers and investors. We welcome the government’s commitment to Worthstone’s accredited training initiative.

“We believe accredited education, training and assessment is without doubt one of the key strategies for bringing social investment to the mainstream of the RIA market. It’s exciting to see the momentum build for social investment within all stakeholders, from the Cabinet Office to the FCA, from accredited bodies to PI Insurers and, of course, advisers themselves.”
